On 26 November, academics from the University of Ulster and from Queens University Belfast jointly participated in a symposium to inform the Prison Review Team about research on prisons being carried out at both universities. From Ulster, research areas covered in presentations to the team included transition and change in the criminal justice process (John Topping and Mary O’Rawe), education in prisons (Tracy Irwin), family rights (Alice Diver), young prisoners (Una Convery), restorative practice in prisons (Hugh Campbell and Tim Chapman) and the need for structural and institutional change (Linda Moore).
The Review Team is expected to publish its first report in the New Year.
