About the Co-organising Organisations:
SPRI (Social and Policy Research Institute), University of Ulster
The Social and Policy Research Institute seeks to harness and develop the highest quality research undertaken in the Faculty of Social Sciences within the broad areas of social and public policy, social work, education, politics and international affairs. It provides an institutional framework for undertaking high quality research and for the development of a vibrant research culture through organising seminars, colloquia and lectures and a forum for engaging with policy makers and those involved with service delivery in the public and voluntary sectors.
CICA (International Colloquium on Conflict and Aggression)
Since 1983, CICA has promoted and supported a multidisciplinary understanding of conflict and aggression through international, residential colloquia on the relationship between the brain and the social context of aggression.
STR (Society for Terrorism Research)
STR was launched in mid-2006 as an international, multi-disciplinary organisation of theoretical and empirical researchers in the behavioural sciences. STR’s mission is to enhance knowledge and understanding of terrorism through the integration of findings from the fields of anthropology, biology, economics, political science, psychology, sociology, law and other behavioural sciences.

The conference is concerned with interdisciplinary understandings of political violence and collective aggression and seeks to bring together experts from the social and behavioural sciences.

Ground Transportation
The Jordanstown campus of the University of Ulster is located some 7 miles outside of the city of Belfast. Belfast is served by two airports, the George Best Belfast City airport (airport code BHD) and Belfast International Airport (BFS). Both airports are served by regular bus services into the city centre and taxis are available from outside the terminal buildings – for more information follow the link on the respective airport websites to getting to and from the airport.For those intending to take taxis directly from the airport to the Jordanstown campus, you do not need to go via the city centre. The journey from the Belfast International airport to the campus is approximately 20-25 minutes and should cost in the region of £20 to £30 depending upon time of day and from the George Best City airport 15-20 minutes and approximately £10 to £30 Dublin airport (DUB) is 100 miles away. Buses are available from Dublin airport to Belfast city centre, depending upon which bus company is used a return ticket is around £15-20 return. The bus journey takes approx. 2 hours and 25 minutes.

With Accommodation includes attendance at all conference sessions, refreshments, breakfasts, lunches and evening reception/dinners, and lodging in a single room with en suite facilities in the University of Ulster’s new Dalriada Student Village for September 2, 3, and 4, 2009. These rooms are located in five-person apartments with a shared communal kitchen/living room and are a 5 minute walk from the main building of the University. For those opting for the early bird and regular registration without accommodation, the University has special rates with a number of hotels locally. Visas
For those participants requiring visas to enter the United Kingdom, please apply for these in able time. For more information please visit the Home Office’s Border Agency homepage for current requirements. If you require a letter confirming attendance at the conference, this will be provided once registration fees (including accommodation) have been paid and funds cleared.
Cancellation Policy
Please note where cancellations are received less than one month before the commencement of the Conference, a cancellation fee will be charged at 50% of the registration package paid to cover administration costs. |
